The above log entry was created just after the reinstallation of Acronis. If the Volume Shadow Copy service is running, stop it after changing this registry value. I then resinstalled Acronis.Īfter reinstalling everything I am still have the same issue. Allow the SQL Writer service account access to the Volume Shadow Copy service via the registry: HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\VSS\VssAccessControl If the DWORD value NT SERVICE\SQLWriter is present in this key, it must be set to 1. I did so, then reinstalled Act! which installed SqlServer 2014.
I spoke with Swiftpage technical support and they suggested that I uninstall Act!, then Acronis, then SqlServer 2014, SqlServer 2008 and SqlServer 2005 all of which were on this machine.
The application requiring the upgrade to SqlServer 2014 is "Act!" by Swiftpage. Writer Class Id: Ĭommand Line: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Shared\sqlwriter.exe"
Check the event log for related events from the application hosting the VSS writer. Changes that the writer made to the writer components while handling the event will not be available to the requester.

Toggling Options>Default Backup Options>Volume Shadow Copy Servce" to "Use Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS)" or "Do not use VSS" seems to have no effect. Launching the backup again results in failure, with 'SqlServerWriter' Failed with a "Non-retryable error". If I restart the computer 'SqlServerWriter' is "Stable" with "No Error". Writer name: 'SqlServerWriter' is in "State Failed" and the Last error: "Non-retryable error". Using vssadmin list writers I can observe that The failures revolve around VSS writer 'SqlServerWriter'.
Have been successfully backing up an application that used SQL Server 2008.Īfter installing an updated version of the application that requires SQL Server 2014 backups are now failing (log file at end of message). Have been running Acronis Backup 11.5/11.7 for more than 2 years on a Win7-64bit machine with no problems.
